Myler Stainless Steel Eggbutt without Hooks, MB 06 Mullen Low Ported Barrel, Level 2-3
The Myler Eggbutt Without Hooks Low Ported Barrel Bit 89-2906, otherwise known as the MB 06, is a great alternative to the traditional mullen bit. With a wide and low port of ¾" high, the MB 06 provides just enough tongue elevation to allow the horse to comfortably swallow, without inviting palate pressure. Once the reins are engaged, this bit applies pressure to the bars and lips while allowing independent side movement. It also features a stainless steel mouthpiece with a curved design for comfortable lips and bars, along with a copper inlay.
This mouthpiece is a step up in tongue relief from Level 2, but because the port is low, it does not offer as much tongue relief as other Level 2-3 mouthpieces with slightly higher ports because the tongue is still somewhat restricted. The MB 36 mouthpiece will offer more tongue relief than the MB 06 when the reins are relaxed, but more tongue pressure when the reins are engaged.
An eggbutt is a traditional cheek style which keeps the mouthpiece from draping on the tongue, providing a more direct signal than the loose ring. The straight side of eggbutt will not pull through the mouth and does not pinch. For a more versatile version, see the eggbutt with hooks.
